Buddhism seems like, in some ways, it's not a very comforting religion. Because it does talk about the fact that we're all going to suffer and die, and that that's inevitable, and tries to give a reason and a meaning for it (as opposed to some branches of Christianity, which seem to say that if you're suffering, it's because you're sinful now). So Buddhism would say, I think, that we suffer in order to have a better existence later, after we all achieve enlightenment. I'm not sure if that's better or worse.
But glad to cause thinking. ;) I think you've always been dead-on about angels, then-- they are scary. I mean, I think that God is scary, no matter how benevolent He/She/It/They/Whoever might be, because of being so powerful and incomprehensible. I mean, gah.
