Hullo! I got here via metafandom, though really, I should have gotten here via rushthatspeaks ;).
And thank you! I read the original rant, and I agree with parts and disagree with others, and thank you so much for point #3, often because I feel weird when I get huffy about cultural appropriation and get the standard "You're making a mountain out of a molehille" type look. I think that annoys me more than anything else.
I have a very, very conflicted view of cultural appropriation; I spent eight years of my life in Taiwan but there, people think I'm American. I live in America now, and here, I miss half the jokes because I didn't grow up with the pop culture. And then, of course, I managed to get into anime and manga and have the odd feeling that yay, Asian pop culture, glad I'm getting to know it better after rebelling against it for eight years, but on the other hand... I know more about Japanese pop culture than Chinese pop culture, and I feel guilty about that, particularly in light of Japan and Taiwan's historical relations.
And... I want to keep going on, except that would probably result in something entirely too long.
