I think that a part of this is not just cultural appropriation, but ethnical fetishisation/objectification. It is often not just the culture that gets appropiated, but I notice (I noticed this in likers of anime/manga, thing japanese, but works on other group.) that they do not only proclaim they love of things japanese, they will also love the poeple to, because they are japanese. Which is something I think a lot of people get aggravated at, people are not just overpowering and appropiating culture (and just because others do it too doesn't make it right), they are also telling people they like them and wannabe friends with them because they are (in this instance) japanese/asian, not becuase of their personality or something like that.
