There is, um, practically-canon Londo/G'Kar slash. JMS wrote a fake script as a prank on the actors. Isn't the idea horribly horribly *wrong*? :)
I agree with you completely about Tolkien. Goodness, I believe it's written up in his notes that his elves apparently only ever had sex to reproduce. And when you consider how long-lived they are and how they didn't coat Middle Earth like a plague of bunnies....
There are other places, mostly young adult extremely wholesome old-fashioned settings, where I don't feel slash makes sense, the Anne of Green Gables series prime among them. I find it hard to say that because, well, that's the *real world* I'm talking about, pretty much, much like The West Wing. But then again neither of them actually is the real world, they're a constructed set of characters.
