It's sometimes odd to realize that this is meeting one's own need, because in my culture, we tend to see good deeds as selfless-- but man, do they make you feel good about yourself.
Weirdly enough, I think this is one of the recurring themes in Fruits Basket: characters realizing how what they need from other people interlocks with what other people need—or what they think other people need—from them.
