And now the fun begins.

For lo, in this round, I have paired all of the previous ukes with other ukes, and all the semes with other semes (with the addition of Riku x Sora from Kingdom Hearts, because I accidentally messed up the numbers). Because all of you bastards are completely unable to pick between Gojyo and Hakkai,* I put Hakkai as uke because Thrud says that's cannon (in Saiyuki Gaiden, currently unavailable in English).

So, see what you think. I encourage discussion of this, particularly with pairings in which people don't know one of the two characters, and have questions.

I have to say, some of these pairings are just fun.

Grin.

*Quite correctly, in my opinion

I am truly unqualified to comment on most of these pairings, but combinations like Sha Gojyo / Captain Jack Sparrow or Aziraphale / Clark Kent are made of awesome.

You should totally vote on the ones you can vote on, and just leave the others blank. Because, I mean, grin.

It totally helps that Gojyo and Jack Sparrow have the same voice actor in the Japanese version. A lot.

What gets me about that pairing is that they could very easily produce as offspring Balthier from Final Fantasy XII, who is a) a perfect combination of both characters, and b) also played by that same voice actor in Japanese.

Damn, this is hard since I'm no longer surrounded by anime fiends!

Also, my brain is fried to find that both Jean-Luc Picard and Ray Kowalski won out as tops in the last round. No way! In the Fraser x Kowalski pairing, I pick Fraser because Kowalski doesn't have his life as together (emotionally or stability-wise) as Fraser, even if Fraser is not as experienced sexually. And besides, Fraser wants to be topped by the One True Ray Vecchio, and Kowalski would be a poor substitute. Therefore, Fraser must take top to avoid emotional confusion. And Q x Picard, I think Q wants to be bottom, but doubt he could let down the "I'm so big and hard and omnipotent" act long enough to actually successfully bottom. Therefore, Picard, as the more emotionally developed one, takes bottom.

Funny, I realize that I made Q top because he was less emotionally developed, and Kowalski bottom for the very same reason. Such is the logic of these pairings, I think.

Also, regarding pairing characters with substantial age differences, like Malfoy x Fraser, age wins. Call me Greek, but it just does.

I am amused by your psychoanalysis of the Ray-Fraser-Ray triangle. :)

(I always preferred the One True Ray Vecchio. But mostly because I just liked the seasons with him in it much better than later seasons all around, I think, not for the pairing.)

This is so interesting! Because the fic I've read is all Fraser/Kowalski, so I barely know Ray Vecchio. Howcum he's so much better?

And Q x Picard, I think Q wants to be bottom, but doubt he could let down the "I'm so big and hard and omnipotent" act long enough to actually successfully bottom. Therefore, Picard, as the more emotionally developed one, takes bottom.

I almost agree with you on this, except for the fact that, in order for Picard to have sex with Q in any way that's even a little consensual, I'd see Q as having to give up at least some of the omnipotent full-of-himself-ness, or Picard would just refuse point-blank to have anything to do with him. For me, the really interesting thing about that pairing is that Picard is, basically, fucking God (only not quite), and I like to think that Picard, being Picard, is unlikely to, um, bend his knees that easily.

...I really need to go read some good Picard/Q fic now...

I realize that Kowalski is the preferred Internet pairing, and from what I know of the later seasons of the show, that is canon. Apparently, the tasty tidbits of homo-eroticism in the last two seasons (the Kowalski seasons) were deliberate. I found this on IMDB in the Paul Gross (Fraser) page:

"Admits to 'including hints of homoeroticism' in the final series of Due South. He is quoted as saying that his new co-star Callum Keith Rennie was incredibly sexy and that the new series would be very homoerotic"

And as both Callum Keith Rennie (Kowalski) and Paul Gross are active in the Canadian Queer Film industry, I suspect there was real chemistry between those two actors.

However, there were more than enough hints and beautiful moments in the first two seasons to sustain my slashy fantasies about Vecchio and Fraser, though they were more understated. Actually, I think I prefer pairings where it works VERY well either way. You could read Fraser/Vecchio as just really close friends, and brothers in arms. Or you could read them as romantically in love and frustrated by a society in which love between men is not so easily allowed to grow beyond best friends. Or simply confused by their love for each other, because society doesn't so much allow for men to fall in love unless they know they're gay to begin with.

Also, I have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] apintrix in just liking the first two seasons better, so my overall preference for him has more to do with the show than with the fic I have read. In my opinion, the writing of the show in the first two seasons (the Vecchio seasons) was better, so the real Vecchio's character benefitted enormously from that. Also, the actor playing him is a bona fide American, which I feel worked better for the show, which was originally supposed to be a culture-clash comedy with hints of the supernatural (like Northern Exposure). Finally, I just personally find the true Ray Vecchio funnier and sexier. He's balding, Italian, has an unnatural affection for his 1971 Buick Riviera, and the most beautiful hands. Oh, I'm all aquiver now!

In case you're interested, this is the site from which I have found all my Fraser/Vecchio smut fic. I'm linking you straight into the Fraser/Vecchio section:

Riku and Seishirou... ouch. And Sora and Subaru... would be awesome, and they'd both be better off for it.

Also, I'm afraid I goofed... all the others had been "who tops," so I got confused when the uke poll was "who bottoms," and I put in the wrong answers. Gomen!

Which is why it would have to involve lots of magic and a splash of non-con, as in, Fraser's like, "No," and Draco's, "No, I think you mean yes."

And thus, Draco would top. Or top from the bottom and then afterwards we have a very traumatized Fraser.

*imagines the Shigure/Spike pairing and is instantly convinced it would go like this:*
